The 4th Medication Safety Conference, supported by Abu Dhabi Health Company (SEHA) was held
 on April 29^th & 30th, 2011 at the InterContinental Hotel, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

The conference was chaired by Dr. Sohail Fitieh, Head of Pharmacy Services, Mafraq Hospital and
was the 4th installment of the extremely successful Medication Safety series.The event hosted over 700 delegates from the GCC and region, including pharmacists, physicians, nurses, students and other healthcare professionals devoted to patient safety and in particular medication safety best practices.

The conference covered technological advances in medication safety, provided updates on best international practices and regulations and explored the ever-evolving risk management strategies dealing with high alert medications, human factors engineering in medication safety and emerging medication errors analysis.

The keynote speakers included representatives from:

• Dr. David U, President, Institute of Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), Canada
• Dr. Jeannell Mansur, Practice Leader of Medication Safety at Joint Commission International
  (JC, USA)
• Dr. Christian Hartman, Founder and President of the American Society of Medication Safety Officers
• Dr. David Cousins, Head of Safe Medication Practices, National Patient Safety Agency ,UK

The noted speakers and many other regional leaders helped the capital in garnering international acclaim and recognition for its top-class Medication Safety implementations.

The 3rd Medication Safety Conference, supported by SEHA (Abu Dhabi Health Services Company) was held on April 10th & 11th, 2010 at the Fairmont Bab-Al-Bahr Hotel, Between the Bridges, in Abu Dhabi.

The event hosted over 500 delegates from the GCC and region, including pharmacists, physicians, nurses, students and other healthcare professionals devoted to patient safety and in particular medication safety best practices.

The event drew a prestigious faculty of internationally renown speakers to Abu Dhabi, where they provided delegates with up-to-date research and strategies, helping increase delegates’ awareness of critical safety issues and provided top-quality scientific material.

The capital’s second Medication Safety Conference set out with a focus on addressing the challenges of medication safety in the region will explore the topic in relation to healthcare institutional frameworks and legislative requirements.

The conference was supported by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) and chaired by Dr. Adeline Saliba, Medication Safety Officer at Tawam Hospital (in affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine). The event, organized by Synovetics, took place on April 18th and 19th, 2009 at Al Ain Rotana.

The two day scientific program focused on identifying, designing and evaluating practices that eliminate or mitigate the effects of medication error, and system-related risks and hazards. Multiple perspectives including those of the patient, the physician and the health authorities were addressed at the conference. Both international and national perspectives were presented with a strong focus on remedial action and best practice measures.

The conference was instrumental to the healthcare community as patient safety had begun to emerge as a serious global public health issue and medication errors proved the most fundamental challenge facing the health sector.

Participants of the event received continuing medical education (CME) hours, which are mandated to enable healthcare professionals to continually upgrade their knowledge while meeting requirements for the future renewal of their professional licenses.
